Make hydration so delicious with this super simple watermelon mouthwash. With just two ingredients, you can mix up a baby smoothie that’s packed with vitamin C, protein, calcium and pure taste.

Watermelon smoothie
It can be hard to get kids to drink as much water as they need, but simple smoothies for kids like this one can help. The quick drink is made with just two ingredients – watermelon and yogurt – and is refreshing and energizing.
I love it as a snack or drink during the warmer months, especially when we have plenty of fresh watermelon on hand.
This healthy smoothie is so easy to make and the short list of ingredients can make it a great place to start if your kids aren’t big on smoothies. Let them help you add the ingredients to the blender—they’ll be relieved to know there’s nothing terrible lurking inside!—and do a taste test!
This is no ordinary smoothie flavor, which makes it even more special. And there are plenty of ways to tailor it to your kids’ specific preferences, too.
The ingredients you need
To make this smoothie you need:

- Watermelon: Any variety will work, although seedless is easier if possible.
- Greek yogurt: You can use plain or vanilla.
ADVICE: You have to freeze the watermelon ahead of time to give it the classic smoothie texture, but otherwise it’s super easy! And if you forget to do this, you can add some ice cubes.
Step by step instructions
To make this smoothie for children, it is enough to:

- Lift the watermelon.
- Add it to a blender with yogurt.
- Mix, starting on low and working up to high.
- Sweeten to taste with maple syrup or honey (which may or may not be necessary depending on the flavor of the melon).
ADVICE: You can use vanilla yogurt if you prefer or Greek-style non-dairy yogurt.

Frequently asked questions
Seedless is the way to go here. And if you can’t find or don’t have seedless watermelon, do your best to remove the seeds first.
Of course, this will work just fine if you need to adjust this recipe for a dairy intolerance.
You can totally add ½ of a frozen banana to change up the flavor of this smoothie a bit.
You can, although the smoothie won’t be as creamy.
To add veggies to this smoothie, I recommend adding ¼ cup of fresh or frozen cauliflower. You can also add fresh or frozen summer squash. (I’m going to use lighter colors here so it doesn’t change the color of the final result!)
How to freeze watermelon
Dice the watermelon and place in a zip lock freezer bag. Remove as much air as possible and place in a single layer in the refrigerator to freeze. This will avoid freezing them all together in one big batch, making it easy for you to measure out a little for your smoothie.

The best tips for success
- Use seedless watermelon to make your life easier and avoid having to pick the seeds.
- Freeze the watermelon at least 6 hours before you plan to make the smoothie.
- Place the watermelon cubes in a ziplock freezer bag and place flat in a single layer in the freezer to freeze. This will avoid freezing it all together in one big pile.
- Use vanilla or plain yogurt. If using plain, sweeten to taste with honey or maple syrup.
- Serve immediately after preparation.
- You can freeze the blended mixture in freezer molds to make homemade popcorn for kids.
- Serve the smoothie in a small cup, a cup with a straw or a reusable bag.
