Colby Covington wins tournament, takes home first poker trophy

Enter Covington Event 22 in the 2022 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open that takes place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. The $1,100 Pot-Limit Omaha event drew a total of 8 84 entries. The prize pool created by the purchase totaled $81,480.

Although many experienced poker veterans participated in the event, in the end, Covington was the big winner. Taking the first place in the tournament took the famous fighter grand prize of $25,875. Furthermore, Covington as well collected his first poker trophy.

Focusing on the final results, the 11th place was taken Mark Dicksteinwhich collected a prize of $2,400. Sean Ramz took 10th place and went home with a prize of $2,625. The same price was collected by Jake Liebeskind who was eliminated and took ninth place. The player who finished eighth was Damjan Radanov, which collected a prize of $2,850. Just above it, taking seventh place was Errol Massey who went home with $3,380. Aaron Shaff was the player who took sixth place and went home with $4,075, while Tony Cousineau collected $5,095 to take fifth place.

The famous MMA fighter played against seasoned veterans

One of Covington’s greatest opponents was Phil Hui. Just recently, Hui won the $600 HORSE Moreover, as a seasoned veteran, Hui currently has five Seminole Hard Rock trophies, three WSOP bracelets and has accumulated more than $3.6 million from poker tournaments. This time, however, the tables were turned and Hui took fourth place, collecting a prize of $6,680.

When it comes to the first three, Salvatore Pipitone was the player who placed third and took home $9,985. It was just one step away from the winner’s place David Shmuel. He was eliminated and took second place in Event 22. This earned him a whopping $15,890.

Covington shares his excitement

Just recently, Covington came close to the top spots in another tournament. He participated in Event 1, which set the record for the largest poker tournament in Florida by drawing an input field of 7703 players. However, in that tournament, Covington finished in seventh place, which earned him a prize of $48,298.

It’s a surreal feeling. It’s been a long journey to finally get a trophy here at the Seminole Hard Rock. This is my home casino and I love playing here.

Sharing his excitement, the MMA fighter said he wanted to “prove it wasn’t just a fluke”. Covington added that he also wanted to try that he can play with some of the best poker players in the world. After winning Event 22, he described the feeling as “surreal”.

Although some poker players lose their temper, this was not the case for Covington. He noted that after fighting for some of the highest levels of pay-per-view in places like Madison Square Gardenhe learned not to get excited when fighting or playing cards.
